Kong Lor Cave
Home Stay in Khammouane Province

Day 1: Transfer and forest walk.
Departing Thakhek by local transport, an English speaking guide will accompany you on the three hour trip to Na Him village, the gateway to Konglor cave. After checking into the local guesthouse, your local guide will take you to the protected forest to visit two impressive waterfalls. Your guide will teach you about the forest and its wildlife and will organize a picnic lunch for you. In the late afternoon you will return to your guest house for an overnight stay in Ban Na Hin, with time to explore the local market and town.

Day 2: Konglor cave / village home-stay.
Following breakfast you travel by local transport to Konglor village, a journey of three hours. After exploring the village, you now walk to the cave entrance. Using a local boat you will travel 7.5km through the cave to the valley beyond, stopping to observe stalactites and other limestone formations. The cave is still used by local villagers as an access route. Following a picnic lunch you will continue on the Ban Natan (or return to Konglor) for your overnight home-stay. There will be ample time to wander around the village and observe traditional activities such as weaving and rice polishing. In the evening the villagers will organise a traditional Baci ceremony for you.

Day 3: Return to Na Hin.
Leaving the village you will return to Ban Na Hin where you guide can assist with you onward travel.

  • Common bathroom facilities available, Public bathing (women need a sarong)
  • Local Lao cuisine. Typical meal includes chicken, soup, sticky rice, vegetables and chili. Vegetarian food is available upon request.

Level of Difficulty & Safety
Easy: Light walking involved. Tour added safety: tour companies should bring life vests for their guests, especially for children, elderly people and those who cannot swim.

What to Bring
1 Change of clothes, sandals for village, good shoes for hiking, sarong for bathing (required for women), mosquito repellent, flashlight, sunscreen/hat, camera, money to purchase handicrafts. Please wear pants and shirt with sleeves during the trek.
